News about Keji Inafune leaving Capcom
Permalink

Hello all. Well this has become a hot topic on the MM boards around the net. And as of right now, I'm going to try to give the short and persise version of all of it.
*Takes a deep breath*
Here we go:

4Gamer, a Japanese gaming mag(I believe) was able to get an interview with Inafune-sensei right before he announced his leaving Capcom. They have since then posted the interview. In it, Inafune-sensei talks about why he's leaving Capcom and some other stuff.
(If everyone wants it I can post the entire interview later. Really, it's a Loooog interview)

To make a very long interview short, Inafune-sensei says that the main reason he's leaving Capcom is because of the company's current policy of creating games and his own need to go futher.
In past interviews and other public areas, Inafune-senei has said that the Japanese gaming world is on delcine and will continue unless something is done. In the interview he explains that with the way the system works now, everything is a numbers game and that the people in higher positions of gaming companies simply want to make a profit, not produce a good game that people will enjoy. Inafune-sensei has also said that he had tried to reason with and come to terms with the company (Such as still contracting with them) but they declined.
Inafune-sensei said that he left because he wants to make games for a global market, not just Japan and that he wants people to like the games he makes, because he made them. Not because they are owned by Capcom or some other company.

Inafune-sensei says that he's not quitting the gaming industry at all, rather he's planning to start his own and try to make it on his own. However, he doesn't want to be limited to just only games either. (meaning he start making some movies or other things as well)

Whatever the case may be, it is true that he's left Capcom and will soon be starting project on his own. However this may turn out, we can only wait and wish him the best!!

NOW, as you all may be wondering, what does this mean to the gaming series that he has been the head over for so long a Capcom? Capcom and many of the people working on the projects, such as Dead Rising and Mega Man Legends 3, have said that they are still continuing to work on their projects and will simply me reshuffling some positions. So, for now, don't worry about Legends 3, it's still on it's way. ^^

The biggest problem with all of this is that, even Inafune-sensei was willing to still work on the project currently under devlopment(i.e. L3), Capcom has made it clear that he will not be working on these projects anymore.
Meaning that for now, all Mega Man games created from here on out, will not be produced by Keji Inafune, but by another producer and Capcom. How this will eventually affect the Mega Man series and others, only time will tell.

Special thanks to 4Gamer for the interview, The Mega Man Network for all the news, and Capcom Unity for info.

So an Era ends....good luck, Inafune-sensei!

I dunno. They still have the people who created the first 2 Legend games on this project, sans Inafune-sensei, along with some people who worked on the X, BN and other series. So there's that. But not having Keji Inafune overseeing the whole project( especially since he's the one who made the games in the first place and called it his favorite series) kinda makes me think that this game is not going to be....as great as it could have been....maybe? I dunno. It's really weird now.....

Plus, inafune-sensei is making his own company and making games and stuff, so now there'll be a tugg and pull from Capcom and him.....>> It's really going to get problematic soon. I mean, you think whoever Capcom gets to head the Mega Man series now will be as good as the guy who created/oversaw/ect. the series........?
